Dr. Ronald D. Barton

Dr. Ronald D. BartonDr. Ronald D. Barton is an anointed preacher, musician, gifted vocalist and songwriter. Dr. Barton was born in Greenville, South Carolina, and started preaching at the early age of fifteen at the Shady Oak Baptist Church. He received his license from Shady Oak, and went on to pastor the Central Baptist Church of Columbia , SC for seven years ,as well as, preaching extensively across the United States and internationally.

In march of 1990, the proud son of Shady Oak returned to pastor his home church were he is proudly serving. Under the leadership of Dr. Barton the membership at Shady Oak has grown tremendously. Shady Oak today has well over nine hundred members with more holistic ministries serving the complete person.

Pastor Barton in April of 2003, led the congregation into a new state of the art worship center and administrative complex. Plans are underway for the construction of center, an educational complex, and administrative suites. He is currently a member of the Reedy River Baptist Association were he has served as Dean of the Reedy River Congress of Christian Education.

Dr. Barton is a member of the Baptist Education and Missionary Convention of South Carolina, a member of the Baptist Ministers Fellowship of Greenville, SC and surrounding areas, a member of the Board of Evangelism of the Progressive National Baptist Convention Inc, and a proud member of the nominating committee at Hampton University Minister's Conference. Among the many accomplishments of Dr. Barton, he published one of his fine sermons in the book "Outstanding Black Sermons, Volume 4", by Judson Press.

  • Received a Bachelor of Divinity degree from the Morris College School of Religion, Sumter, South Carolina (Magna Cum Laude)
  • Appointed to the Morris College Board of Trustees
  • Recently appointed to the Morris College Board of Trustees
  • Started a separate 501C3 called the Total Empowerment Community Development Corporation
  • Dr. Barton serves on many boards in the community: Chair of The Board of Directors (Urban League), The Multicultural Diversity Advisory Board at Greenville Technical College, The Family Self Sufficiency Task Force of the Greenville Housing Authority , and The Human Relations Council Of Greenville County
  • Received the Order of the Palmetto by Governor Mark Sanford ( highest civilian honor given)
  • Received a Presidential Citation from Dr. Luns C . Richardson for outstanding service to Morris College
  • Received the Bennett W. Smith Evangelism Award given by the Progressive National Baptist Convention, Inc
  • Published sermon in the book “Outstanding Black Sermons, Volume 4 edited by Judson Press, Inc
